What are your Christmas traditions?

  • Reading ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas. My father would read this to us on Christmas Eve before bed. I still read it! Not necessarily on Christmas Eve, but whenever I want.
  • Watching my favorite Christmas specials. These include Frosty the Snowman, Charlie Brown Christmas, Rudolph, and How the Grinch Stole Christmas. I can’t help it – I’m a Big Kid. I love these shows, always have, and likely always will. I have to watch them every year.
  • Drinking egg nog, drinking gluewein. Egg nog is a love from my childhood. Gluewein is a love from my time spent living in Germany. Now both are part of my Christmas traditions.
  • Trimming the tree. When I was a child we had this fake tree – my parents still have it and put it up every year. Now my husband and I have a new tradition of putting up a real tree and we’re starting to build up our own collection of ornaments. Most of them are cat friendly because ours likes to bat them off the tree and start chasing them…

Take the time to make your own list.  That way you can know which traditions you need to plan for. This will mean making the time, purchasing the ingredients, etc. Once you create your list, take out your calendar, sit with your family, and get to work talking about when each event will happen.
