Send a Holiday Greeting – Feed the Hungry!

Posted by on November 22, 2009

festive looking cookiesI know, we’ve been all business lately getting ready for Christmas. But let’s take a step back and do something simple… feed the hungry by sending an eCard!

Kraft has a program out called Recipe for Joy. For every one of these eCards that you send out, Kraft will donate 10 meals to Feeding America. (Thanks to 365 Days of Christmas for alerting me to this. :) )

All you need to do is send the holiday greeting on the Kraft site – that’s it. The greeting contains some yummy looking recipes.  Just click the link at the beginning of this post and follow the instructions for sending the greeting. I just sent one to my parents and prompted them to send at least one, too.

Ten meals doesn’t seem like a lot. But what if 10 people sent one card (100 meals)? 100 people (1000 meals)? And sending a card spreads the word about this effort. For most of us, we don’t have that much extra to give during the holidays. All this takes is a few minutes of our time – the rest is completely free.

This has also inspird me to look in my cupboards for some canned goods and other foods that I could donate to the food pantry. I know, these are usually odds and ends. But food is food, right? This is the time of year when food pantries are bursting at the seams and could use all the help they can get.

Think you don’t have much money to spend to give to the food pantry? There are some inexpensive finds at the store that are much appreciated such as boxes of pasta and other non-perishables. Just give what you can afford. And remember, if you can’t afford much you can always send more of these holiday greetings.
