When it comes to entertaining for Christmas, it’s all too easy to overextend ourselves. The temptation is to skip having a party entirely in order to prevent ourselves from getting too stressed. But what’s the fun in that? It is far better to have people over, even if the gathering is simple.
Who doesn’t love ugly Christmas sweaters? Even those who aren’t completely obsessed with them seem to have at last one or two. Whether wearing them while Christmas shopping or at an ugly Christmas sweater party, everyone should have at least one in their closet.
So, you’ve purchased all the large gifts that you’ll be giving your kids. There’s no time to rest yet, though – you still need to figure out what you’re going to put in their stockings! Sure, these stocking stuffers aren’t coveted like the latest toy trends would be. But they’re still quite a lot of fun!
There are a few approaches that you can take when selecting stocking stuffers. Here are some of my favorites:
Are you looking for some great winter crafts to dow with your kids? Whether you need something for a snow day, or are looking for some great holiday ornaments to decorate your home, these crafts are fun and educational. They’re also great for kids of all ages.
Are you looking for some options for Christmas gifts that you can make yourself? When you take the time to create your own gifts, it can really show someone how much you care about them! The good news is that these gifts don’t need to take a long time to make, either. Here’s a look at some of my favorite DIY gift ideas for Christmas:
The Elf on the Shelf became a beloved Christmas tradition starting in 2004 when the book was first published. It tells the story of how elves hide in people’s homes so that they can watch what’s going on. In other words, these are Santa’s helpers. They determine whether the people in the home are naughty or nice, and then they report to Santa.
When it comes to entertaining for Christmas, it’s important not to overdo it. The good news is, it’s possible to serve up a delicious and classy meal without spending hours in the kitchen! It all starts with these incredibly simple ideas for appetizers that you can serve on Christmas Day or any other gathering you may be having during the holidays.
Each year, you send out Christmas cards hoping that the people you don’t have a chance to talk too often appreciate the gesture. For the most part, they do seem to appreciate it, but sometimes just scribbling, “Merry Christmas” and signing your name doesn’t feel like enough. That’s why I also like to send a newsletter.
Today I heard my first Christmas ensemble of the year – a bell choir organized by a local church. The music was beautiful and the ladies work REALLY hard. It made me realize that it is time to think about my Ultimate Christmas Playlist. After spending some time looking around for the right one, I decided to go ahead and make my own!
Rather than describe which songs I put on my playlist, I thought I’d share it with you! I’m a huge fan of jazz and swing so of course there’s Glenn Miller, Charlie Brown Christmas soundtrack, and an assortment of other Christmas classics. As the Christmas season progresses, I am sure that I will add even more songs. We’re just getting started this year!
When it comes time to decorate for your Christmas party, it makes sense that you don’t want to spend a lot of money. The good news is that you don’t have to! These party decorations are inexpensive and look beautiful when you put them all up. It doesn’t take a lot of money to make things look festive!
Snowman decorated Christmas trees make for great decorations. Whether you buy a tabletop display complete with Christmas trees and snow men or you buy a large snowman decoration for your Christmas tree, snowmen are a clear favorite when it comes to holiday decorating! There are even Frosty the Snowman tree toppers that can turn your regular Christmas tree into something even more unique and memorable.
Whether you’re hosing a Christmas party or are attending a holiday gathering, it helps to know how to make a few really great cocktails. When having guests over, you’ll want to have at least one signature Christmas cocktail.
While at a party, your bartending skills may come in handy, especially if people find out you know how to make some really great drinks. Here are some simple cocktail recipes that will be a hit at any party:
You work hard shopping for all those Christmas presents – but what happens if the gift recipients live in the same home as you? It’s discouraging to think that they could find the gifts at any moment because that would completely spoil the surprise. Sure, you could always wrap the gift before you put it away. However, that isn’t a guarantee that the secret is safe! Your best bet is to hide it so that no one can find it. Here are some great places to hide them:
Are you looking for insight into the latest Christmas toy gift trends for this year? It’s no secret that kids seem to wait the same types of gifts from year after year. There are several things that could motivate them to want a particular gift. These include:
- Whether or not a friend has the same toy, and they want it, as well.
- If they saw a commercial or other advertisements.
- They simply know that the toy they want is something they’ll really enjoy.
Do you have a fantastically cheesy, or “ugly” Christmas sweater in your closet? If so, then you’re probably looking for something to do with them. After all, it isn’t practical to wear it on a regular basis, especially if you work in an office with a strict dress code. Instead, it’s fun to have an ugly Christmas sweater party! Here are some tips:
Even with the best of intentions, it can be hard to find that happy medium – buying gifts for the people you care about while not spending more money than you have. The key is to set a budget and stick with it. Here are some tips on how to do just that:
I think this cupcake cake is super cute. What a fun idea! Even though the cupcake trend seems to be on its way out, I still think every cupcake I come across is adorable. I may give this one a try for my next Christmas party Doesn’t it look delicious?
Have you heard of pickle ornaments? I think they’re fantastic, especially because they’re offbeat and unique. I was browsing through Amazon looking for any last minute Christmas gifts, and I came across these bright green pickle ornaments. At first, I thought it was just a one-off. But, when I searched for more pickle ornaments, I found a TON. It’s apparently a “thing”.
I especially like doing this if I am giving a gift card or something else that’s impersonal. Homemade gifts are also good choices for teachers gifts.
These top homemade gift ideas always serve me well.
Even though this is a happy time of year, the weeks leading up to Christmas can be incredibly stressful. The weeks after Thanksgiving fly by and then we realize that oops, we didn’t get everything done. For me, that often means that I didn’t send Christmas cards either by choice or because I ran out of time.
People love getting Christmas cards because they love being remembered by their friends and family members. People use the cards to decorate their homes. They even buy things like these Christmas card wreaths to store them. Yet, not all of us have time to send them. Now what?
As an adult, I noticed that more and more people used these lawn decorations. If they were around when I was a child, I bet I would have loved the decorations even more. I sure love them now.
Sugar cookies are an essential Christmas staple. For me, that usually means that I buy sugar cookie dough, roll it out, and use Christmas cookie cutters to make the right shapes. Sometimes, I’ll ice the cookies in Christmas colors.
Well, this year, I think I may find time to make my own cookie batter. However, this year, I decided to make them chocolate! I found a great video on youtube. This is the Chocolate cookie recipe I am going to use.
When I was a kid, I would make my mother take me to the Hallmark store so I could look at the giant display of keepsake ornaments. Each ornament told a story and when I gazed at them, my imagination would run wild.
There were the little houses, the ornaments celebrating popular films, and some that feature classic Christmas images, like Santa Clause.
I can’t believe it’s that time of year. I know I started this blog back in August in anticipation for the holidays but for the first time, I can actually feel it coming. There’s a chill in the air this week that hadn’t been there before. I actually turned on the heat this morning.
I love making sugar cookies for Christmas. This video is excellent. Next time I make sugar cookies I will definitely take her advice.
For the first few years of my life as an adult and having a Christmas tree, I would continually forget to put down a tree skirt. I moved around so many times in my twenties, I would often forget where my tree skirt really was. I didn’t always unpack all my boxes because sometimes I wouldn’t be in the same place for long enough. It was easier to only unpack the things that I needed.
We have such busy lives it can be difficult to find time to wrap a gift properly. That’s why I think that decorative Christmas boxes with lids are pure genius. I can make a gift look beautiful without putting forth the effort to wrap it. Brilliant.
So, each year, I review my stock of decorative boxes. I try to have some on hand in an assortment of sizes just in case I need to wrap something at the last minute. Otherwise, I just buy them as I need them.
In Germany it’s called Gluhwein. Here in the United States it’s called Mulled Wine. No matter where you drink it or what you call it, I look at it as one of the biggest delights of the Christmas season. One sip instantly takes me back to the Christmas markets in Germany. I enjoy making some each year while I trim the Christmas tree.
Ever feel like you needed help finding something to say to someone? Or, do you just love the thrill of picking a question out of a box to discuss with another person? Conversation starters such as the Melissa & Doug series a popular, fun choice to get the conversation rolling.
Nothing says, “I’m ready for Christmas” than knitted Christmas stockings. When I was a child, I loved it when it was time to hang the Christmas stockings. Because we didn’t have a mantel (we had a wood stove) I knew that it was Christmas time when my mother would hook the stockings over the nobs of the hutch in the dining room.
As soon as I became an adult, the Christmas stocking stuffers stopped. Why is that? Filling a stocking with small trinkets is a magical thing even for adults. So this year, I propose that we fill up those stockings for those adults whom we love, not just the children.
Part of the fun of shopping for Christmas gifts is finding perfect stocking stuffers and gift add-ons. Small toys such as the Arthur Christmas Mini Figure pictured here definitely meet that description.
I was around eleven years old when I saw my first bear. It was a jarring experience and even though the bear was off to the distance, I was a little scared. As an adult, I’ve grown to respect these animals. Not only that, but I think they are adorable. I love putting adorable things on my tree.
One thing I never really mastered, but plan to, is making my own holiday bows. Since I have a love affair with duct tape, I was thrilled when I found these duct tape Christmas bow instructions on youtube.
During the Christmas season, it’s the little decorative touches that make a huge difference. Yes, most of us trim a tree – but it’s those little thing, like the Christmas burner covers pictured here, that make the home feel extra festive.
This isn’t the best way, though, because they always seem to fall down – the card stock is too heavy and most magnets aren’t strong enough.
When I was a child, I would have my mother sing to me before bed, year round. Her lovely voice, a piece of cheese, and a glass of water would complete my evening routine that would see me off to bed.
One thing I love about the Christmas season is how festive it is. Each year, I divide my time between decorating, shopping for Christmas gifts, attending Christmas parties, and in general simply feeling happy.
When it comes time to set up the Christmas tree, my favorite is to incorporate elegant Christmas tree ornaments with other ornaments I may have collected over the years. My ornament collection is fairly eclectic, but the elegant ones are those that seem to tie the whole look together. It doesn’t matter if I held on to an ornament I made in kindergarten, or one someone gave me that is falling apart. As long as I have some elegant choices, my tree looks gorgeous.
I think cupcakes make a great addition to any holiday spread. My favorite varieties include butterscotch cupcakes, chocolate cupcakes, vanilla cupcakes, and even mint chocolate chip cupcakes. Basically, I think cupcakes are the perfect food. They not only make a great homemade gift by themselves, but they are also a great thing to bring to a Christmas party.
I am a sucker for a delicious cup of tea. In fact, I seem to drink tea all year long, nearly every day. It’s not only good for you, but it tastes great too! Christmas is a special time of year, though, because many tea companies, such as Twining, release their special edition teas. I usually stock up when I find them so I can enjoy them all year!
Do you have a “thing” for Bernese Mountain Dogs or know someone who does? If so, you may consider buying a few of these cute little Bernese Mountain Dog Christmas Ornaments to decorate your tree with or to give as gifts.
Christmas exists not because of Santa, giving each other gifts, decorating our homes, or the Rudolph Christmas special that airs every year. We celebrate Christmas because that is the day we, as Christians, have chosen to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ. It is an important religious holiday that has skewed into a materialistic one.
Stickers are an easy and inexpensive way to spread some holiday cheer! When I was a child, I had a sticker collection. As an adult, I love stickers almost as much, especially at Christmas. In fact, I am addicted to them. I put them on everything – wrapped gifts, Christmas cards, my forehead, … Okay, I only did that once. Each year, I need to stock up because I use them up rather quickly.
I don’t know about you, but I find wrapping gifts to be frustrating, especially when wrapping large boxes or those gifts that have an odd shape. It’s also a lot more convenient to fold a sweater, wrap it in tissue paper, and place it in the bag than it is to find a box and then wrap it. No, huge Christmas bags is definitely the easiest way to make a gift look gorgeous.
Are you having a Christmas party? If so, you’ll definitely need some appetizers. Most of us don’t have the time to do anything elaborate. Fortunately, there are some easy appetizers that you can put together even when you’re pressed for time.
So, the Christmas shopping is done, or nearly done. The gifts are wrapped, or almost wrapped. Now what? It’s time to consider buying those special little extras to give as a stocking stuffers or to top one of your presents. I find that Christmas Marshmallow Peeps are a definite favorite amongst those on my list. Maybe because I personally love them so much?
Don’t get me wrong. I look forward to the yearly ritual of putting up the Christmas tree. However, there are elements of that tradition that I could do without. For instance, lights can be a little stressful – especially when they get tangled or when some of the lights go dead. What can we do about it?
For five years, I was presented with an opportunity that enabled me to live in Germany. That means I spent five Christmas’s or so getting to know the German Christmas traditions. One of my favorites is the German Christmas markets, or Kristkindlemaerkte. I particularly enjoy the one in Munich because that’s my favorite city.
Cupcakes are a popular trend right now and when Christmas comes around, they’ll be even more popular than. Modern cupcakes are large and filled with a variety of flavors. They are also very creative and artistic. Do you have a cupcake lover in your life? Then baking up a batch of cupcakes or buying cupcakes from a shop are both excellent choices for Christmas gifts.
